Dislocated atlas vertebra how the atlasprofilax technique works

The atlasprofilax technique was developed between 1993 and 1996 by the Swiss René-Claudius Schümperli.

It is based on the correct repositioning of the atlas, the first cervical vertebra. It is carried out by means of a specific massage in the short musculature of the neck.

ATLAS VERTEBRA: WHAT HAPPENS IF IT IS UNBOXED

After several years of research, Schümperli, passionate about manual techniques suffering from multiple health problems derived from accidents, discovered that the atlas (the first cervical vertebra), is dislocated (dislocated) in most people.

In addition, due to causes such as difficult births, falls throughout life or traffic accidents, the dislocation of the atlas can worsen and cause new symptoms and ailments, or worsen and chronicle existing ones.

When the atlas vertebra is dislocated or disengaged, depending on its angle of rotation it can cause a narrowing of the volume of the foramen of the skull and the vertebral canal, causing the spinal cord, as well as part of the cranial nerves and nerve endings to be very compressed and even permanently pinched.

This dislocation causes that in turn, the vertebral arteries, the carotid artery and the lymphatic vessels suffer a strong and constant pressure, which leads to headaches and migraines, postural problems (brothy shoulders, rotation of the pelvis …), tingling and paresthesias in arms and legs, chronic fatigue, neck pain, jaw, cervical and back pain in general, diffuse and changing joint pain, herniated discs, scoliosis, vertigo…

Schümperli started from the evidence that this vertebra is not only the support of the head, but also responsible for the balance, posture and guidance of the spine and skeleton.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF REPOSITIONING THE ATLAS VERTEBRA?

To alleviate these dysfunctions, Schümperli developed a deep and specific massage method that, applied to the short muscles of the neck, manages to reposition the atlas in its natural position.

Lluís Manent, specialist in atlasprophylax with consultation in Barcelona, points out that the technique is absolutely positive and that it does not entail any risk or adverse side effects, since in no case are sudden or aggressive manipulations carried out.

Manent also argues that for mechanical and anatomical reasons a correctly repositioned atlas cannot return to its natural position, something that explains why the treatment only requires two sessions.

“During the first session, the position of the person’s atlas is evaluated and corrected or repositioned and after a few weeks the second session is performed, which consists of a control massage to follow the evolution of the regenerative process,” says the therapist.

He adds that “as for the most common reactions, already in the first session you usually experience a deep relaxation and an unblocking of certain parts of the body that were contractured or sore.

Maybe the person is surprised by moving his head easily and in the short or medium term sees how his discomfort and pain disappear, that he has gained flexibility, that his posture is more upright, he has more energy and feels less tired …”

But he warns that “it can also happen that the person experiences fatigue, stiffness and muscle tension in the nape of the neck, some point of the back or lumbar teeth, which indicates that the self-healing process has been set in motion.”

ATLASPROPHYLAX AND MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS: JOAN’S CASE

Joan Serra, a 46-year-old agricultural machinery mechanic and resident of Manlleu (Barcelona), has been suffering from multiple sclerosis for more than eleven years and thanks his naturopathic doctor who two years ago advised him to visit a specialist who practices this method.

“When I visited Lluís Manell I had serious difficulties walking (I walked half crouched), sharp pains in the neck and other points of the back, frequent headaches, muscle stiffness, extreme tiredness, double vision, blood supply problems and a whole set of symptoms that seriously affected my quality of life, so I was about to throw in the towel and leave the company I managed”, Joan explains.

On the first visit Lluís asked him among other things about the illnesses and accidents he had suffered, to which he replied that he had had several traffic accidents, the first of them, very serious, at the age of 18, which had caused the typical whiplash.

“Then the therapist proceeded to massage me and weeks later I went to a second and final follow-up visit,” Joan explains.

Lluís Manent assures that in people who have suffered whiplash the chances of developing multiple sclerosis in the short, medium or long term are multiplied by thirteen, according to statistics, without the cause having been investigated.

“We believe that due to the strong blow, the atlas moves even more and causes a very important compression of the spinal canal producing a ‘short circuit’ of the spinal tracts responsible for balance, motor sensitivity, etc., in addition to affecting the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and nervous system, among other repercussions.”

The therapist says that after the treatment Joan has undergone a spectacular transformation.

Gone are his neck back pains, extreme tiredness and headaches. The double vision problems have improved a lot, he has regained balance and walking is no longer as difficult as before.”

Joan is so well that he has recovered the desire to continue with his business and has sent his whole family to Lluís’ consultation. “It has even changed my character and vision of things,” concludes Joan.

The atlasprofilax method has also been shown to be effective in cases of vertigo, chronic fatigue, migraine and muscle and osteoarticular pain, among others.
