Finding the perfect Christmas gift is not easy. You never know if you will get the present right, but a natural cosmetic, made by yourself, is an original gift that can only succeed. All the products we are going to describe have a shelf life of several months, so you can prepare them in advance and with peace of mind before the maelstrom of the holidays.

5 ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS GIFTS: HOMEMADE COSMETICS

1. CHRISTMAS LIP BALM

A lip balm is a blessing especially in the cold winter months. In addition to the basic ingredients, coconut oil and beeswax, necessary for the simplest version of homemade lip balm, you can give it a Christmas touch with cinnamon and honey. Vanilla offers a great alternative if cinnamon is not tolerated.

Ingredients:

  • 30 g coconut oil
  • 10 g beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 pinch cinnamon powder or the pulp of a vanilla pod

Elaboration:

  1. Weigh the coconut oil and beeswax and put them in an empty jam jar. Slowly heat the glass in a saucepan in a water bath until all the ingredients have melted, think that beeswax takes a little longer to melt.
  2. As soon as everything is liquid, add the honey and cinnamon or vanilla. Stir well. To check the consistency, pour a few drops on a plate with a spoon and let them cool. The balm should be firm and melt easily on contact with warm skin. If necessary, add more coconut oil or wax to adjust the consistency.
  3. Pour the finished balm into a jar of ointment and let it cool completely.

The finished lip balm keeps for several months, leaves the lips pleasantly soft and protects it from dryness and cracking.

2. COLORFUL AND BUBBLY BATH BOMBS

To relieve the stress of the Christmas period, you can give bath bombs. You only need a few ingredients.

Ingredients (for three bath bombs):

  • 200 g baking soda
  • 100 g citric acid
  • 30 ml vegetable oil, e.g., olive oil
  • 50 g cornstarch
  • 5-7 drops of essential oil depending on the desired aroma
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • Food coloring
  • Decoration, such as dried flowers and herbs (from roses, lavender or marigolds, which release beneficial substances into the bath water)
  • Honey, milk powder and spices (optional)

Elaboration:

  1. Mix the baking soda and starch in a bowl.
  2. Add the vegetable oil, essential oils and water and knead until it forms a ball.
  3. Add the citric acid and knead well again.
  4. Divide the dough, according to the number of colors you want to use.
  5. Put a food coloring in each serving of the dough and mix it well. Use a few drops and integrate them quickly, otherwise the reaction between baking soda and citric acid could start prematurely.
  6. First place some flowers in the mold, then add the first portion of colored dough and press into the mold.
  7. To create beautiful color combinations, overlay layers of different colors and press firmly.
  8. Repeat the process for the other half of the mold.
  9. Fill both halves to the edge, place them on top of each other and press firmly so that the mixture forms a ball.
  10. Carefully remove the mold.
  11. Let the balls harden at room temperature for several days or put them in the fridge for about five hours.
  12. Store the finished balls in a dry, airtight place.

3. MASSAGE OIL

A massage relaxes, promotes blood circulation and ensures that the active ingredients of the oil penetrate deep into the skin. For the elaboration of a natural massage oil, it is necessary:

Ingredients:

  • 100 ml of base oil (sweet almond oil or jojoba oil give good results)
  • 10-25 drops of one or more essential oils
  • 1 bottle suitable for filling (if it is for gift, it can be especially beautiful)

Elaboration:

  1. Pour the carrier oil into the bottle.
  2. Add the essential oils.
  3. Close the jar and shake vigorously to distribute the ingredients evenly.

Some essential oils frequently used for massage are rosemary, peppermint, cypress, niauli, lavender, basil, arnica, ravintsara, bitter orange, etc.

As with other oils, it is advisable to store massage oil in the dark. The shelf life depends on the carrier oil, but is usually at least several months.

4. SUGAR AND COCONUT OIL PEELING

This should be the best way to put sugar to use and not harm our health. The peel ensures that dead skin cells are removed and the skin becomes soft and supple.

Ingredients:

  • 200 ml organic coconut oil
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 50 ml honey

Elaboration:

  1. Mix 4 parts coconut oil, 2 parts brown sugar and 1-part natural honey until you get a creamy paste.
  2. Pour into a sterilized glass jar that you can decorate however you want.

If you have sensitive skin, try the peel very carefully. As an alternative to sugar, a somewhat milder ingredient such as coffee grounds or poppy seeds is also suitable.

5. BODY BUTTER

Cocoa butter with a pleasant aroma, consistency-enhancing beeswax, and soothing almond and coconut oil provide rich care for dry skin in this homemade body butter.

Ingredients:

  • 50 ml almond or other vegetable oil
  • 30 grams of coconut oil
  • 20 grams of cocoa butter
  • 5 grams of beeswax
  • a few drops of vitamin E oil (nourishes the skin and ensures greater durability)
  • a few drops of tea tree oil that has an antibacterial effect (optional)

Elaboration:

  1. Place the almond oil and beeswax in a heat-resistant glass and slowly warm in a water bath until the wax melts completely.
  2. Remove the glass from the water bath and add the cocoa butter and coconut oil until melted.
  3. Add vitamin E oil and essential oil, stir and transfer to clean and beautiful containers to give away.

Healthy body lotion not only takes care of your skin and leaves it silky smooth, but it also smells great.
